Hide me so I can be found

Most of us who live busy lives in the world rarely descend into the stillness and silence we need to hear our souls speak. Why does this matter?

The journey of becoming ourselves requires us to grow deep roots into the ground of our being, so that more and more the voice we heed is from the wisdom of our inner being.

The journey of becoming ourselves requires us to grow deep roots into the ground of our being, so that more and more the voice we heed is from the wisdom of our inner being. This inner wisdom is the voice which shows us the way to integration and wholeness, but we struggle to hear this voice because we are constantly bombarded by other voices that attempt to tell us our value and worth. For all who wish to be a pilgrim of the interior life, and all who wish to grow in authenticity and wholeness, learning the value of seasons of hiddenness is non-negotiable.

...if we are hiding from what will rob our life and joy from us, then our hiddenness empowers us to journey into wholeness.

To be hidden means to be concealed from others. Whether that is a positive or negative thing would depend on what the purpose of hiddenness is and what we are being hidden from. If we are hiding from what will bring us greater freedom and fuller life, then our hiddenness keeps us trapped. But if we are hiding from what will rob our life and joy from us, then our hiddenness empowers us to journey into wholeness.

I often revisit the foundation principle of what I call 'living from the inside out'. That is living life not just at the outermost layer of our lives where we engage with the external world, but living with engagement at the level of the core of our beings, through listening to what our thoughts, emotions and physical symptoms are saying to us. (I cover this principle in Episodes 4 & 5 of the podcast "Living from the Inside Out")

The more we are in rooted in the core of our being, the more our actions and words reflect authenticity and wholeness. The more our lives are authentic and whole, the more our presence and action can bring healing and hope to others.

A life that is lived from the inside out is a life that is anchored in True Self, and the way we respond to the stimuli and circumstances that buffet us on the outermost layer of lives will come from an increasingly anchored and integrated life. The more we are rooted in the core of our being, the more our actions and words reflect authenticity and wholeness. The more our lives are authentic and whole, the more our presence and action can bring healing and hope to others.

Even as we become more integrated in our core, we will still find it a challenge to remain anchored when the push and pull of fortune and the demands of the external world come fast and furious at us.

This process of learning to live from the inside out requires us to learn how to tune out the unhelpful voices and influences that keep us fragmented and distracted. But before we are more integrated in our core, we all struggle to keep focused on the interior journey. Even as we become more integrated in our core, we will still find it a challenge to remain anchored when the push and pull of fortune and the demands of the external world come fast and furious at us.

Seasons of being hidden from the noise of the world can help us to enter the silence we need to begin hearing the inner voice of our souls. We need seasons of hiddenness to recognise that we are lost and that we need to be found.

That is where seasons of being hidden from the noise of the world can help us to enter the silence we need to begin hearing the inner voice of our souls. We need seasons of hiddenness to recognise that we are lost and that we need to be found. And it is in seasons of hiddenness that we can focus our attention and our energy on the important interior journey without the usual distractions.

Seasons of hiddenness can feel like winter when nothing seems to be happening on the surface. But in deep places that are unnoticed, there is growth happening, consolidation, new revelations about ourselves, and healing.

During seasons of hiddenness, we can descend deeper below the external layer of our lives and remain there longer while we grow deeper roots into the ground of our being.

During seasons of hiddenness, we can descend deeper below the external layer of our lives and remain there longer while we grow deeper roots into the ground of our being. These seasons prepare us for even greater fruitfulness in our lives by pruning us and anchoring us in the nourishment we need.

Sometimes seasons of hiddenness can come organically, according to a certain life stage that we are at. Sometimes we need to actively seek such seasons out and make them happen. They can be short or they can be long, but unless we know just how incredibly important and powerful seasons of hiddenness are for us, we won't embrace them when they come much less seek such seasons out when we actually need them.

If you are serious about the interior journey of becoming more authentic and whole, there will be many times in your life where you need to be hidden so that you can tend to the deep needs of your soul.

And believe me, if you are serious about the interior journey of becoming more authentic and whole, there will be many times in your life where you need to be hidden so that you can tend to the deep needs of your soul. I share my own experiences of entering seasons of hiddenness both short and long, and how these seasons impacted my interior journey in Episode 16 of the Becoming Me podcast: The Joy of Hiddenness. Fellow Be-comer and pilgrim, I wish you the joy of hiddenness!
